Are you looking for a fun activity to help students develop phonemic awareness of vowel teams and digraphs? These task cards work by having students listen to a word and move a token for each sound (phoneme) that they hear. By doing this, students learn to segment words into individual sounds, or phonemes, helping them understand how syllables in a word may not always match up with the number of letters in it. A Word Guide sheet for the 44 Task Cards, helps guide your instruction. This resource is aligned to Science of Reading principles. (14 pages)

Includes:

1 Word Guide sheet

44 Task Cards

1. Pronounce the word slowly, stretching it out by sound. The student to repeat the word.

2. Have the student count the number of phonemes in the word, not necessarily the number of letters. For example, sheep has three phonemes and will use three spaces. /sh/, /ee/, /p/

3. Direct the student to slide one colored counter, etc. in each circular space as he/she repeats the word.
