These spider themed medial sounds cards can be utilized in many ways to practice vowel sound recognition while working with CVC words. This is a skill that students need to work on repeatedly to master and gain fluency in reading. The fun spider theme makes it a perfect resource to use around Halloween.

What is included with this resource?

In your download, you will receive two sets of 24 cards. The first is noted by numbers 1-24 and the second is noted by letters A-X. You can use the sets simultaneously or at different times.

Each set comes with two version of the recording sheet – 12 spaces or 24 spaces. This allows you to differentiate the activity to meet your needs.

How can I use this resource in my room?

You have many options when using this resource, here are a few suggestions:

  • Independent Literacy Center – students can work on the cards independently at a station by marking or placing clips on the correct answer
  • Scoot! – play Scoot! as a class for a fast paced review (more instructions provided in your download)
  • Task Cards – place cards in a basket or on a ring and have students work through the cards with a small group or independently
  • Write the Room – place cards around the room and have students find the cards to record their answers
  • Sensory Bin – add the cards to your fall or Halloween themed sensory bin and have students search for the cards that match their recording sheet

Do I have to use all 24 or 48 cards at one time?

No, you can choose to use 12, 24, or 48 cards every time you use this resource.

Are the words repeated throughout this resource?

No, there are 48 unique CVC words covered in this resource.

Do my students need to use the recording sheets?

Only if you are playing Scoot! or write the room – these are optional pages to give your students accountability for independent centers.

Do the cards come in black and white?

Yes, you can choose to print the center in color or black and white.

Do you offer this resource with other skills?

Yes, there are three variations of this literacy center available – beginning sounds, ending sounds, and medial sounds. They are offered individually and in a bundle.
