Are your students diving into their sight words this year? These digital word building mats are a great addition to independent center work and perfect for whole group modeling! Students will listen and use digital magnetic letters to build high-frequency words.

How will students use these digital sight word mats?

On each slide, students will listen to an audio clip of a sight word and then use the digital magnetic letters to build the word. Students can then check their work by revealing the correctly spelled word.

That’s a lot of words! How will I find the words I want to use?

There is a number code at the top of each mat. This correlates with the word lists to help you locate the words you want to use without needing to play the sound or slide the answer box on every page. It’s also helpful for noting which slides you are using in your lesson plans.

I’ve included two types of guides for you – the first is by word list and the second is alphabetical.

I’m having trouble playing the audio!

Because your students will be using Normal View to utilize this resource, they will need to click on the play icon and then the play button to hear the word on each slide. You may need to show your students how this works the first time they use it.

Can I purchase this resource by word list?

No, this is only available as a set.

I don’t want to use all the words. Should I still purchase this?

Yes! You can use the entire list or you can use them as you need them with your current program. There are 220 words included, so each word only costs about two cents.

Can my students complete these independently?

That is the intention! You will need to introduce the activity to your students and show them how it works before they complete any slides on their own.

What program(s) does this resource use?

These digital word building mats come as PowerPoint files. They work in the Normal View of PowerPoint. The movable pieces will not work in Slide Show view. There are more detailed instructions included in the teacher guide.

The activity looks fun. Is it available in a different theme?

Yes, this activity is available in the following themes: digging (archeology), diving, farming, fishing, and treasure hunting (pirates). Additional themes may be added in the future.

This resource seems great, but I’m utilizing Google Slides™ at the moment. Do you have any similar resources?

Yes! If your students are working on sight words, I highly suggest these interactive books!

My class is using Seesaw™, do you have any sight word resources for that platform?

Yes, I do offer sight word activity mats specifically designed for Seesaw™ tools. You can find those mats here.
