If you are looking for fun, engaging sight word games and activities that are themed for your students to work on during small group or independent work, then these gingerbread sight words activities are just for you!

Working with another word list? No problem! Just create your own cards with the template included.

How many games are there?

There are directions included for four card games. You may be able to use the cards for other games in your classroom as well.

Can you tell me more about the games?

All the games can be played with any number of word cards. You may choose to stick to one word list or combine them to give your students more of a challenge. Directions for each game as well as special cards are included in your download.

Sight Word Memory: this game is played like any other memory or concentration game where students are trying to find the most word pairs

Make a Match: this is a variation of “Go Fish”, where students ask each other for a specific sight word to find the most word pairs

Sight Word Shakeup: similar to “Boom!” students will practice reading words from the deck of cards; if they draw a “shakeup” card, they must return their cards to the pile

Sight Word Fox: this game is like “Old Maid”, where students are creating pairs and avoiding the “Fox” card; students try not to be the last player holding the Fox card

What words are included?

I don’t want to use all the words. How can I differentiate between the word lists?

Each word list features a different kid on their card. For example, the first grade word list has cards with a gingerbread baking, whereas the second-grade word list has a gingerbread man with his arms out. Feel free to mix and match the cards to meet your student’s needs.

I want to mix the words lists together, but I don’t want to print all 220 cards. Can I make my own cards?

Yes, you can use your own word list to create 40 cards at a time. If you need more than 40 cards, you can repeat the process laid out in the file.

Can I print the games in black and white?

A blackline version of the games is not included at this time but may be added in the future. If you would like to see that added to this resource, please let me know through the Q & A tab of my store.

Do you have more sight word resources in your store?
Yes, you can find more sight word activities in the sight words category of my store.

This was colorful and engaging for my students. They got a lot of practice in, and giggles were abundant during the learning. {:> Gingerbread is a big theme in my classroom, so these were perfect. THANK YOU so much! {:>Barb
