Are you looking for a new and simple way to engage your students while learning their sight words? This resource was designed to be a quick tool to utilize the week you are teaching or reviewing sight words.
What will the students do each time they complete a sight word book?
Book Cover – The student will write their name on the cover that reads “I am learning the sight word _____”
Circle page – students familiarize themselves with the word by tracing and writing it correctly
Triangle page – students practice writing the word repeatedly by rainbow writing their word
Square page – students identify their word among other sight words from the same list
Pentagon page – students identify the number of syllables, write the word, and practice reading the word in sentences
Diamond page – students read the word in a sentence, rewrite it, and illustrate the sentence
When do you suggest using these books in my classroom?
You may consider using them as morning work, seat work before centers, a reading or writing station, or transitioning to your reading block. Once your students are familiar with the format of the books they should be able to complete them on their own with little to no help.
Why do the pages have shapes in the right-hand corners?
The pages of the books have small shapes in the upper-right hand corner. These can help you direct your students to the page(s) you want them to complete. They also help make sure that your books are put together in the correct order. (The suggested order is noted above, but you can rearrange the pages if you like.)
