The Pigeon Has to Go to School uses humor to ease the first day of school jitters. It is a good story to address fears. Some of the things Pigeon worries about during school activities could never happen. Some of his concerns could happen, and students may share those worries; the story is an easy segue into “what if scenarios” at school and sharing possible solutions.

This series was developed to be utilized after read-alouds of popular children’s books. The standards-aligned activities fall into one of the following six categories: reading, comprehension, vocabulary, phonics, grammar, and writing.

Can this be used on digital platforms?

Yes, some of the school activities can be used on platforms such as Google Classroom™ or Seesaw™.  In your ZIP file, there is a folder with JPEGs for selected activities that would work well digitally. These image files can be uploaded to your learning management system. You may want to layer text boxes on some of the images.
