Keep your students engaged and excited about practicing their alphabet skills with this write the room activity. The alphabet center is the perfect way to practice letter recognition, handwriting, and isolating beginning sounds.

What is write the room?

The alphabet activity is a fun and interactive way to get your students moving around the classroom. After placing word cards with a focus on beginning sounds around the classroom, students will walk around with a clipboard and recording sheet. Students write the words they find on a worksheet for accountability.

How many words are included in this write the room set?

There are twelve words cards included. You can choose to print your cards in color or black and white. The words are included on the cards – due to the terms of use with the graphics used in the resource the cards cannot be the picture in isolation.

These sets have too many words for my students. Do you have any other sets?

Yes, my smaller alphabet write the room sets include six words per set. These are perfect for allowing different students to work with different letters at the same time.

Can this alphabet center be differentiated?

Yes! There are three different worksheets included to help meet your students needs.

  • Traditional Recording Sheet – students will trace the letters at the top of the page and then record the words around the room.
  • Guided Recording Sheet – students will trace the letters at the top of the page and the words from around the room. This page could be used without the word cards, but it’s less fun that way!
  • Color by Sound – students will color the words that start with the target sound.

Do you have other alphabet resources?

Absolutely! I have a full alphabet unit for teaching each letter and several alphabet centers.
