Are you looking for a fun way to work with sight words around Thanksgiving? This fun build a turkey center is perfect to use during the holiday season or any time of the year! Students can spell a selection of words (of your choosing) with turkey feathers.

How can I utilize the word cards?

Each list of words is separated with different colored feathers. You can select one word list or combine the cards to create your center. You may want to place the words cards on a ring to keep your chosen word lists together.

1st Grade: dark orange

2nd Grade: light orange

3rd Grade: yellow

We aren’t working on sight words right now. Can I use my weekly spelling lists with this center?

Absolutely! You can print the blank word cards and write your own selection of words.

How much prep work is involved?

You can prepare as few as one set of turkey bodies (three per page), one set of turkey feathers (five pages), and your chosen words (four to five pages per word list). The provided word cards come as twelve easy-cut rectangles to a page.

Is this activity right for my students?

The activity is great for any students working on learning or reviewing sight words. Students will be building a variety of chosen words so they will be reading and spelling their sight words.

Is there a recording sheet?

There is not a recording sheet included with this center. There are 220 words and your students may be working on any variety of the cards. You can choose to have your students record the words they work with on a piece of paper when they have completed the center.
