Social stories are a great way to teach children with autism or special needs a variety of essential skills and behaviors. They also work well to prepare students for special events or social situations they will encounter in the classroom setting. When students are prepared and know what to expect, they have a head start when coping.

These short stories are meant to facilitate your discussion about SEL topics or events, providing a framework and a visual guide to describe interactions, situations, behaviors, skills or concepts. These stories are designed to help children on the autism spectrum, children in your special education class, or in an inclusive classroom.

The goal is to ease anxiety and stress in transitions and help teach the children how to respond appropriately. They are designed to help keep children with autism on task and help them learn to function independently.

These materials are effective for intervention and when developing behavior management plans, IEP’s, or reinforcing common core objectives for life skills.

Stories are in full color and meant to be shown to the class as a multimedia display (projected) with time to discuss each slide or page. However, the pages can also be printed out to create short booklets for individual students or a classroom library. Each story has between 5-10 slides.
