Use this fall favorite, There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Leaves! by Lucille Colandro to make skill practice fun! Students will enjoy a variety of reading, writing, math, and craft activities.
Can you tell me more about the types of reading activities?
There are activities to practice retelling, sequencing, vocabulary, and rhyming.
* Cut and paste pictures with ordinal numbers
* Hands-on “Feed the Old Lady” with retelling strips
*Sequencing cut and paste with writing lines
* Write the Room with story vocabulary
* Rhyming card game
*Vocabulary word search
How is writing incorporated?
There are four writing ideas along with decorative writing page options. The pages do not have prompts on them, so you can use them in whichever way works best for your students.
What is the math connection?
A differentiated non-standard measurement math center is included. You can either have students just practice measuring or have them measure two ways and compare. Non-standard rulers, story items to measure, and recording sheets are provided.
There are so many activities! How do I fit these all into a week?
It is intended that some are presented as options, so you are not likely to use every page. One way you might utilize this resource:
Monday – read the story and have students practice retelling
Tuesday – choose a writing option to begin
Wednesday – measurement activity/start craft
Thursday – complete and share writing
Friday – complete craft and any unfinished center activities
CENTERS: Use sequencing, word search, write the room, rhyming game for centers throughout the week.
Do you have any other resources for this book series?
Yes, I have a similar resource for There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Turkey.
*This resource was created to be used following reading the story to your class. The book is NOT included.
